Frequently Asked Questions...
What do I need to bring with me to a class?
Please bring a bottle of water to drink during the session, as you can get hot and sweat doing exercise. (Only water or squash - no fizzy drinks)
What do I wear?
Initially you should something easy to move in e.g. shorts or jogging bottoms and a T-shirt. Don't worry about footwear, as we train in bare feet.
After you have been for a few lessons and decide to continue you will need to purchase a dobok (training suit) which should be worn to every lesson.
What age do I have to be to start?
We take students from 5 years old (depending on their ability to concentrate) to any age. You do not have to be fit to join, but you will definitely get fitter if you do! (Mums and dads have no excuse!)
How much does it cost?
Shepshed Taekwondo is a non-profit making club and as such charges only £5 per session. Membership, kit and grading fees are kept to a minimum, and certain costs such as competitions are sometimes subsidised by the club.
How long does it take to become a black belt?
It takes a minimum of three years to obtain a black belt and this is if you train on a regular basis and show a commitment to the martial art.
How physical is the martial art?
Taekwondo is a contact martial art and therefore quite physical. However, we practice self-control and use zero or light contact so injuries are very rare.
